Market Basket, Rockport

It’s a bit of a walk if you arrive by boat, but a trip to the Market Basket for some baguettes, the latest New York Times, and a few choice provisions is worth the trip. The sandwiches are some of the best in the midcoast, encompassing everything from a reuben to an asian mushroom salad wrap with bok choy. There’s also an impressive selection of wines and beers to match any budget and taste. Rest in one of the Adirondack chairs out front for more than a few minutes and you’re practically guaranteed to bump into the midcoast’s most important movers and shakers (not to mention a few important folks from away).

The Market Basket is open 7 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday. From the harbor, walk south on Pascal Avenue until you hit West Street; take a right here and you’ll see the Market Basket on your left, just across Route 1.
