Maine Electronics Writer/Gadget Guru Wins Top Awards

In what was to us perhaps the most unsurprising news of the day, we just learned that our long-time friend and colleague Ben Ellison has been awarded two first place awards and a certificate of merit in an editorial contest. Boating Writers International (BWI) recognized the top marine journalists in the U.S. and beyond at the Miami Boatshow. Winners were selected from over 365 entries in 16 categories. Ellison, who is a contributing editor for Maine Boats, Homes & Harbors and the electronics editor for Yachting and Cruising World, took home the top prizes in the eighteen-year-old competition for an article that appeared in the May issue of Cruising World and for the terrific content he continually generates on his own marine electronics-focused website, Panbo.com.

“Ellison’s work oozes electronics knowledge, how-to guidance, and product advice with regular spirited ‘conversations,’” the judges wrote. “Content is delivered energetically, factually, collegially, with a warm sense of the boating community and in a particularly handsome presentation.”

We’ve always known that no one beats Ben when it comes to figuring out and, more importantly, explaining the pros and cons of the latest gadgets for our boats. It’s awfully nice to see that others recognize the value of his work, too. Congrats, neighbor!
