Great Wass Island — A Great Adventure by Car or by Boat

Great Wass Island, a beautiful place to visit just off Jonesport, projects farther out to sea than any other land mass in eastern Maine, according to the Nature Conservancy, which helps to maintain a  spectacular network of hiking trails on the western side of the island. Home to many different forms of bedrock, jack pine, and gorgeous views across Pleasant Bay, Great Wass is truly a special place. The island also features a working waterfront on Alleys Bay road, where lobstermen work the surrounding waters and help to bring in one of the largest annual catches in the state. The island can be accessed via a bridge in Jonesport that spans the Moosabec Reach.
