The crew at Sail Newport was delighted to host a dedication ceremony on June 1 for our new fleet of J-22 yachts, built by Waterline Systems in Portsmouth. These 14 new boats will be used in our rental, instruction, and racing programs at Fort Adams.
This wonderful addition to our fleet would not have been possible without the generous support of our members and specifically the donors who stepped up to fund each of these yachts. It was a treat to watch them all coming forward to sprinkle some obligatory bubbly on the bows of the boats they helped provide (and, in many cases, even name). Perhaps most heartening was seeing the smiles on the faces of the youngest crews in attendance (some of them were practically still wet from being out sailing in our fleet of Optis), as they truly represent the future of sailing in Newport.
