Superyacht Regatta Sees Belfast-built Boat On Top

We at Stephens Waring Yacht Design are pretty proud to report that our 91′ yawl Bequia is excelling at the prestigious Loro Piana Superyacht Regatta in Porto Cervo, Sardinia. With two of the four days of racing completed, Bequia has come out on top both days! The gentle breezes of the Med are treating her right.

Bequia‘s owner is understandably elated. In his daily updates, he reports, “we put up Bequia‘s large chute in 11 knots of wind. And Bequia looked like Secretariat in the back stretch. We flew, and blew by Drumfire [ a Hoek-designed sloop].”

The regatta features some of the largest and most famous sailing yachts in the world, and is a fixture on the Mediterranean regatta circuit. After the racing, Bequia will settle down for some cruising in Italy and the Greek Isles before an Atlantic crossing this fall in time for the Caribbean season. She’ll return to New England in the spring of 2014 — her owner considers the Superyacht Regatta “a simple trainer for the 2014 Eggemoggin Reach Regatta classic!”
