Delivering A Classic | A Trip Across Buzzards Bay in a Herreshoff Power Cruiser

New Bedford Harbor contrasts greatly from the highly polished and glossy surroundings of Buzzards Bay. For many boaters, the iconic image of a New England harbor looks more like Nantucket than Gloucester. However, New Bedford remains one of the most important commercial fishing ports in the country. Because of this, the waterfront is lined with commercial fishing fleets, large shipyards, and the remains of a booming textile industry.

Earlier this Spring, I was able to jump aboard a classic Herreshoff motor cruiser for a quick delivery. Originally built in 1931, ARIEL II was restored by Ballentine’s Boat Shop and now hails from New Bedford.
