Pineland is located on Pine Island in Lee County, FL. It is home to the Florida Museum of Natural History’s Randell Research Center, which is focused on archeology in the area pertaining to the Calusa settlement which was one of the oldest and largest native settlements in the state. Pine Island is the largest island in Florda and due to its lack of beaches, relies less on tourism than other areas and instead is more known for commercial fishing.
