Yachting in Maine – The Way Life Should Be

Every April, many of Maine’s top boatbuilders and boatyards head down to Antigua to show the classic yacht crews and owners gathered for the Antigua Classic Yacht Regatta just how incredible the Maine coast really is. They spend the week proving that not only can Maine craftsmen build a boat, but they can also sail them — and sail them fast. Finally, they show the hundreds of gathered yachtsmen that Mainers like to throw a party, inviting them all up to Cloggy’s Restaurant for a bash that includes everything from Maine lobster to plenty of appropriate libations.

This year, in conjunction with the Sail Maine Party, these craftsmen, along with Maine Boats, Homes & Harbors, asked the USHarbors crew to pull together a visual demonstration of all that the Pine Tree State has to offer boaters. Working with such noted photographers as Alison Langley, Billy Black, Onne van der Wal, Jeff Scher, and Jamie Bloomquist, the USHarbors editors pulled together a spectacular ten-minute slideshow that captures why the coast of Maine is so cherished — for its cruising grounds, its collection of fine yachts, and, most importantly, its boatbuilders.

Take a few minutes, kick back, and enjoy the way yachting should be.
