Winter on the Waterfront in Rockland

It’s been quite a winter already, with temps barely breaking zero over the past several days. Here are some shots of the 140′ Coast Guard icebreaker Thunder Bay tied up at the station on Tilson’s Wharf in Rockland, waiting for a break in the weather. Most Maine harbors are pretty solidly frozen in at this point, so when the temps start to warm the Thunder Bay‘s crew will have their hands full. The state’s working waterfront doesn’t shut down in the wintertime, though, so the work that these men and women do is even more vital during a winter like this one.
