US Harbors announces the creation of national Harbormaster Appreciation Day – celebrated annually on October 8th – a day when coastal communities come together to recognize and celebrate their local harbormasters.
Harbormasters are the stewards of our harbors – the center of our coastal communities. They manage the overall ecosystem, including moorings and docks, harbor uses and harbor users, and interactions between local, state and federal government. Of all of our public stewards (police, EMT, fire etc.) these men and women receive the least recognition for their services.

US Harbors is working to change this by giving the harbormasters of the United States the recognition they deserve. Harbormaster Appreciation Day has been registered as a national event that occurs annually on October 8th, with the inaugural event on Tuesday, October 8, 2019.
