13 Full Moons, 2 Supermoons and a Blue Moon Expected in 2020

Let’s get one thing straight—sky lovers were totally spoiled in 2019. The year started out with three (yes, THREE) supermoons, and with a recent solar eclipse among other celestial events, 2020 has a lot to live up to.
While we might not see another lunar trifecta this year, experts do expect to see two supermoons, a blue moon and thirteen full moons over the course of 2020.
The moon will look the largest in the sky, aka take on supermoon status, this spring. The first of the two comes on March 9, while the other will appear shortly after, on April 7. According to space.com, April’s supermoon will be the bigger of the two, since the moon will be at its closest point to Earth.
The real treat comes in October. It’s the only month of the year to have two full moons, ultimately making the second full moon of the “blue” variety. And what’s even rarer? October’s blue moon will take place on Halloween. According to AccuWeather meteorologist Brian Lada, “After the blue moon on Oct. 31, 2020, trick-or-treaters will need to wait until 2039 to see the next blue moon on Halloween.” This is definitely an event you don’t want to miss.
