Coastal Flooding Predictions for January 2024
2024 is starting off with a bang, with coastal storm conditions bringing storm surge warnings and coastal flooding around the country. NOAA’s January high-tide flooding predictions do not account for real-time weather conditions where wind and weather conditions may cause additional flooding outside of predicted windows.
NOAA is predicting “likely” high-tide flooding in January for the following locations:
- Toke Point, WA — January 12
- San Diego, CA — January 11 & 12
- North Spit, CA — January 11 & 12
- Hilo Bay / Kuhio Bay, HI — January 11 to 13
- Kawaihae, HI — January 12

About these Predictions: “These flooding likelihoods are derived from a probabilistic model that incorporates tide predictions, sea level rise trends, and seasonal changes in coastal sea level to predict the potential that a higher than normal high tide may exceed established National Ocean Service flood thresholds. During these periods, high tide flooding may occur in flood-prone areas.” NOAA
