Welaka is a town in Putnam County along the St. Johns River. Found in the town is Mount Royal, an archeological site that gives insights into the history of the town due to remnants of a Timucua Indian village from ca. 1250 to 1500 AD. These findings also show possible connections to Enacape, an important town in the history of the Utina tribe. A National Fish Hatchery is also found in Welaka, and it is the only natural fish hatchery in Florida.
