Monthly High Tide Flooding Outlook – October 2025
After several months of enjoying low flooding potential, many locations in the East, West, and Gulf Coasts find themselves facing the likelihood of high-tide flooding in October. Major harbors such as Boston, Charleston, and Galveston are all likely to see flooding on or about the full moon, on October 6, and the new moon, on October 21, during what are known as the spring tides. Flooding is possible in the Chesapeake, while the Southeast is likely to see its highest tides of the year this month and may see flooding due to water levels alone (impacts of weather may exacerbate these impacts).
Higher than normal high tides and lower than normal low tides will occur around the perigean spring tide, when the Moon is full and closest to Earth. Mean sea level is generally higher in the early fall months due to warmer, expanding ocean water and changes in weather patterns.
Note that while NOAA only makes these flooding predictions for harbors with National Ocean Service water level stations, other locations along the coast may experience similar high-water events during these time periods. In addition, real-time weather conditions, including wind direction and storm surge, may also increase the potential for flooding. In all locations, higher than normal high tides (and lower low tides) should be expected on or around the full moon, on October 6, and the new moon, on October 21.
October 6 – Full Moon

About these Predictions: “These flooding likelihoods are derived from a probabilistic model that incorporates tide predictions, sea level rise trends, and seasonal changes in coastal sea level to predict the potential that a higher than normal high tide may exceed established National Ocean Service flood thresholds. During these periods, high tide flooding may occur in flood-prone areas.” NOAA
