The list of food destinations in South Rockland seems to be growing by the day, and one of the latest and best is Sweets & Meats, a gourmet food market located practically across the street from the Public Landing and downstairs from the offices of Maine Boats, Homes & Harbors magazine. Here’s where you’ll find local meat and cheese, not to mention a great selection of baked goods made fresh daily in their bakery (make sure to try the breakfast tortes, which come in such yummy flavors as pancetta and gorgonzola and prosciutto and pecorino) and sandwiches made to order. There are a few tables if you’re not taking your vittles to go, and owner Julia Gaona McClure has generously opened up free WiFi for patrons. And if you need a little pick-me-up, there’s always a fresh pot of Matt’s Coffee – roasted in a wood fire up the road in Pownal, believe it or not – as well as a great selection of wine, beer, and all-natural soda.
