Monthly High Tide Flooding Outlook – June 2025
While only San Diego and Nawiliwili, on the Hawaiian island of Kauai, are likely to see flooding in June, flooding is possible in every region of the mainland U.S. except the mid-Atlantic this month. Some West Coast locations will experience their highest tides of the year in June, and certain stations are predicted to exceed the high tide flooding threshold based on tides alone. (A storm occurring at this time would result in even more tidal flooding and coastal erosion.) Higher water levels are most likely on or around the new moon, on June 11, and the full moon, on June 25. In the Northeast, Southeast, and West Coast, tides will increase leading up to and after the June 20 Summer Solstice, due to the increased angle of the Sun relative to the Earth’s equator. Mean sea level is typically higher in the summer due to changing weather patterns and increasing water temperatures.
June 11 – Full Moon
June 25 – New Moon
June 23 – Perigee** Perigee is when the Moon is at its closest point to the Earth. Average ranges in the tides are higher than usual. When this occurs around the new or Full Moon, the result is even higher high tides and lower low tides than typical.
Note that while NOAA only makes these flooding predictions for harbors with National Ocean Service water level stations, other locations along the coast may experience similar high-water events during these time periods. Real-time weather conditions, including wind direction and storm surge, may also increase the potential for flooding.
Make sure to print out the monthly tide chart from USHarbors so that you can stay on top of any potential flooding events in your favorite harbor.

About these Predictions: “These flooding likelihoods are derived from a probabilistic model that incorporates tide predictions, sea level rise trends, and seasonal changes in coastal sea level to predict the potential that a higher than normal high tide may exceed established National Ocean Service flood thresholds. During these periods, high tide flooding may occur in flood-prone areas.” NOAA
