Fall River, on the eastern shore of the mouth of the Taunton River and head of Mount Hope Bay, is an important manufacturing center as well as distribution point of petroleum products. Principal products handled through the port are petroleum products, latex, shellac, cotton, and some lumber.
The battleship USS MASSACHUSETTS, a World War II memorial, and three other U.S. Navy vessels are berthed just northward of the State Pier.
