Boating, Fishing, and Travel Information for Dutch Harbor, Amaknak Island, AK

Dutch Harbor is ranked as a top fishing port with more than a billion dollars transferred each year. Huge harvests of pollock and cod in the Bering Sea are part of this total. The Bering Sea has a continental shelf that is one of the world’s largest, and supports a rich ecosystem. Dutch Harbor-Unalaska is best accessed by plane. Alaska Airlines and PenAir fly in from Anchorage and Grant Aviation from Akutan, Atka and Nikolski. The ferries of Alaska Marine Highway sail to Dutch Harbor between April and October. It’s the westernmost point on the AMH, and as such Unalaska is the westernmost point in the Americas reachable by scheduled land and sea transportation. The harbor is prominently featured in the Discovery Channel reality television series Deadliest Catch, which has been airing there since 2005.
