Some marine supplies can be obtained at the landing 0.4 mile above the mouth. A State-maintained boat launching facility with floating piers is on the west side of the river 0.8 mile above the mouth.

Mahon River empties into Delaware Bay at Port Mahon. The river is used by commercial fishing boats, and small fuel barges. The controlling depth is about 8 feet in the marked entrance channel with deeper water inside. The Dover Air Force Base fuel pier, about 200 feet long with reported depths of 10 feet along the east side, is on the west side of the entrance.
