Peekskill is at the head of a shallow bight at Mile 38E. A dredged U-shaped channel extends northeastward from deep water in Hudson River to the wharf area and thence northwestward back to deep water. The southern channel is marked by buoys and a light. In 1990, the controlling depths were 5 feet in the south channel, 4½ feet in the north channel, and 2½ feet in the channel west of the wharves except for shoaling to 1½ feet near the ramps in the southeast corner of the turn leading from the south channel to the waterfront.
