We stumbled across this ridiculously cool video of the ocean currents in action around the world recently, and we can’t help but share it. This video isn’t something that you should use for navigation — it’s even a bit less useful than Wind Map, in our opinion — but it’s still awfully fun to watch. According to the folks at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center, who put it together, it “shows ocean surface currents around the world during the period from June 2005 through December 2007. The visualization does not include a narration or annotations; the goal was to use ocean flow data to create a simple, visceral experience.”
Visceral, indeed. Turn off the lava lamp for a bit and enjoy the Gulf Stream in high-def.
