BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — The Louisiana Sea Grant College Program is getting a new executive director on July 1, Louisiana State University said Monday.
Associate Professor Julie Anderson Lively will replace Robert Twilley, who has held the post since 2012 and is stepping down to concentrate on research in LSU’s College of the Coast and Environment.
Lively, a marine biologist, is the fisheries specialist for Louisiana Sea Grant and the LSU AgCenter.
Since coming to Sea Grant in 2010, Lively has led a wide range of research projects that brought in grants totaling more than $23 million, said Sam Bentley, vice president for LSU’s Office of Research and Economic Development.
“She leads a diverse research team of extension associates, graduate and undergraduate students and post-doctoral researchers in a portfolio of work that blends research and extension, both core missions of Sea Grant,” Bentley said in a news release.
Lively, an associate professor in LSU’s School of Renewable Natural Resources, came to LSU in 2010.
She is the fourth head of Louisiana Sea Grant, which was established in 1968.
Louisiana Sea Grant is part of a network of 34 university-based Sea Grant programs, one in each U.S. coastal and Great Lakes state, and in Puerto Rico and Guam. They promote coastal stewardship through research, education and outreach.
