Coastal Flooding Outlook for March 2024
March’s highest tides start at the end of the first week in March–around March 9th–for most of the country, and will last several days. NOAA’s predictions for tidal flooding primarily focus on the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic states, and the Pacific Northwest. Hawaii is expected to see less tidal flooding this month, while–as usual–Eagle Point in Galveston Bay, TX is predicted to see the most flooding days in March
QUICK LINKS to possible flood days by region: Northeast, Mid-Atlantic, Gulf Coast, Pacific Coast
About these Predictions: “These flooding likelihoods are derived from a probabilistic model that incorporates tide predictions, sea level rise trends, and seasonal changes in coastal sea level to predict the potential that a higher than normal high tide may exceed established National Ocean Service flood thresholds. During these periods, high tide flooding may occur in flood-prone areas.” NOAA
