Welcome to Fort Point, Newcastle, NH

The Portsmouth Harbor Coast Guard Station and lookout tower are on Fort Point as well as Portsmouth Harbor (New Castle) Light (43°04’16”N., 70°42’31”W.). The lighthouse is also known as Fort Point Lighthouse, New Castle Lighthouse and Fort Constitution Lighthouse. It was first established in June 1771, making it the first light station north of Boston in the American colonies. Today’s 48-foot tower was built in 1878 and stands 52 feet above the water and is a white conical tower attached to a house on Fort Point, the northeast end of New Castle Island. A mariner radio-activated sound signal at the light is initiated by keying the microphone five times on VHF-FM channel 83A.
